Side cabinets

The great classic of Napoleon III furniture: side cabinets with one or two doors, with fixed side panels (“à dormants”) or with a bronze medallion, in ebony veneer and Boulle marquetry of brass, pewter or tortoiseshell.

Cabinets “à dormants”, with richly inlaid panels on either side of the door, offer more generous storage and make these already richly decorated pieces even more impressive. Cabinets with a bronze medallion, inspired by Diehl’s first creations for the Universal Exhibition of 1867, were made for only a few years — until about 1870 — and are of particular interest as they are relatively rare.
