Ceremonial cabinet, ebony veneer on an oak carcass, Boulle style marquetry with brass fillets & brass inlays on a brown tortoiseshell ground on the door & the uprights. Gilt bronze ornaments (original gilding), a referenced model from the house of BEFORT in Paris featuring the bronzes such as the spandrels, the acanthus-leaf chutes, the Nemean lions and those on the door depicting Socrates & Aspasia beneath a canopy, which is associated with this cabinetmaker’s most prestigious pieces: his signature appears numerous times on the edge of the uprights and on the bronzes of the base.
