Rare pair of Napoleon III Boulle marquetry ceremonial cabinets, BEFORT jeune

Rare pair of ceremonial cabinets in ebonized wood, Louis XIV in style, with Boulle-style marquetry of brass fillets & brass cartouches on the door and the uprights. Gilt bronze ornaments; opens onto a mahogany interior with 2 shelves, working key available

A documented model from the house of BEFORT jeune — these are the most highly rated pieces produced in the Napoleon III period: it displays the classic codes of the house, such as the segmented edge mouldings, the geometric marquetry of the uprights, Dionysus at the centre of the door, the famous “Befort corners” at the top of the door, the broad acanthus-leaf chutes, the top inlaid with brass fillets without marble, and the cornice with its bronze corners.

The second cabinet is currently undergoing restoration; the other cabinet is identical, but as is usual with BEFORT the figure of Dionysus is set opposite Xerès, so only the door bronze differs

Rare & remarkable models; available late August / early September but may be reserved immediately
